About East Brent Parish

Welcome to the Parish of East Brent, which encompasses the villages of East Brent, Rooksbridge, and the hamlet of Edingworth. It lies on the eastern edge of Brent Knoll hill which was formed during the 7 millennium at the time of the Ice Age. There is still evidence of an Iron Age Fort on the summit.

East Brent is known as “The Home of Harvest Home” a celebration of the end of harvest. Farm workers were paid for their harvest work at the end of harvest, but used to spend the money on beer and cider, instead of taking it home to their families, so during the 19th century Arch Deacon Denison decided to have this party in order to control alcohol consumption. Other Somerset villages followed this example.

Today the population of the Parish is close to 1300, with various amenities, which are easily found on this website. Simply click on the Amenities
